On Venezuela’s elections

Whatever the results are, it is important that there is a democratic process in which everyone considers that their interests have been taken into account - whatever the outcome may be.

On a personal note, it’s hard not to think that the elections were rigged in favour of the Chavistas. From the secretive death of Hugo Chavez, the rapid ascent of Maduro and the hasty elections, it all seems like an orchestrated win, with the opposition having little to no chance.

Secrecy, lack of transparency, excessive confidence and electoral hastiness are enemies of a healthy democracy.
